During an Ayurvedic protocol, in terms of exercise, one cannot indulge in jogging, brisk walking, and swimming sport or any kind of strenuous work. You can take a walk in our campus before 8 hrs. and after 17 hrs. only. Yogic breathing, Meditation and relaxation techniques are advised under the supervision of yoga instructor. It is good to indulge in light reading, so as to give rest to the eyes. Listening to soothing music will allow your body to absorb the effects of treatments.

Yes, when prescribed appropriately by qualified doctors. All Ayurveda medicines are made from natural sources. All medicine compositions are referred from the text of Ashtangahrudhaya and all our medicine manufacturing factories are certified by ISO and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).

The nearest airport is Kochi International Airport (COK) which is 50 kms from Vaidyaratnam Nursing Home and it will take around 50 minutes by road. Prepaid taxi is available at the Airport. The nearest Railway Station is Thrissur which is 12 kms from Vaidyaratnam Nursing Home and it will take around 20 minutes by car or three wheeler. If requested, we will arrange pick-ups and drops. Call taxi facility is also available.

The duration of the treatments ranges between 16 to 30 days depending on the condition of the patients and their responses to the treatments.

Normally the cost of treatments and medicines will be around INR 4000-5000 per day. But it may vary according to the condition of the patient and his response time. In addition need to incur cause for other services like room rent, canteen, laundary, etc.

Part payment, as advance at the time of admission. Final Settlement at the time of discharge. Cheques will not be accepted. Excess advance if any, will credited to your bank account within 3 banking days.

Patients latest medical reports. Prescription of Allopathic medicines being consumed. Normal casual wear dresses, pyjamas, sarees, etc. Warm clothing and Blankets. Comfortable foot wear and clothing for yoga. Flasks, glass and dining plates for personal use.

Food is the part of treatment, and for better results of treatments, we insist vegetarian food only supplied from the canteen as per the direction of the doctors. According to the nature of illness, food items are decided. Generally it will be less spicy and oily. Uncooked and unboiled items, citric fruits, curd, cold items are not generally allowed. Apples, Pomegranates & boiled ripe Bananas are allowed.

We serve vegetarian food only. It is low fat, low salt and less spicy. Guests on a medical programme will be put on a custom diet.

Normally there is no restriction. However consult the doctor before starting any Yoga postures and follow the directions of the doctor for better result of panchakarma treatment. Facilities are available for yoga & prayers.

Treatments

All treatment regimen at Vaidyaratnam, be it Preventive or Curative, follow strict rules that patients are required to adhere to. We do not offer quick-fix packages. Every treatment procedure is recommended and followed through by highly trained and qualified Ayurveda physicians. It’s the precious health and life of patients who put their trust in us. Vaidyaratnam medicines are primarily herbal extracts as stipulated in ancient Ayurveda scriptures, while the mode of administration can be either by external application and / or internal ingestion. Treatment is of 3 types i.e. Shodhana, Shamana & Brumhana

STIMULATORY THERAPIES (SAMANA CHIKITSA)

Abhyangam (Medicated Oil Massage)

Application of oil over body while gentle pressure is applied in seven different postures. It prevents Ageing, Fatigue and effective in treating Degenerative (diseases) Arthritis, Emaciation, Low Back Ache, Sprain, Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis

Udwartanam (Powder Massage)

Medicated powder is applied all over the body with pressure. Effective in Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Neuropathies etc.

Dhanyamladhara (Sudation with Medicated Liquid)

Luke warm dhanyamla is poured all over the body. Effective in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Hemiplegia, Obesity, Osteoarthritis etc.

Valuka Swedam (Sudation with Sand)

Dry type of sudation in which sand is used to enhance sudation. Effective in Rheumatic Fever, Plantar Fascitis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.

Choorna Pinda Swedam (Sudation with Medicated Powder)

Dry / snigdha type of sudation in which medicated powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Arthritis, Sciatica, Neurological Disorders, etc.

Pathra Potala Swedam (Sudation with Medicated Leaves)

Snigdha type of sudation in which medicated leaves & powders are used to enhance sudation. It relieves low back ache, muscle cramps, joint disorders, etc.

Jambeera Pinda Swedam (Sudation with Jambeera)

Snigdha type of sudation in which Jambeera Fruits & Powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Frozen Shoulder, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Plantar Fascitis, Obesity, etc.

Pizhichil (Oil Bath)

Pizhichil is the procedure in which warm medicated oil is poured over the body and sudation is enhanced. It is highly effective in degenerative and neurological disorders. This can also be done in healthy individuals as a part of rejuvenation.

Shashtika Pinda Swedam (Sudation with Medicated Rice)

Serving both, as curative and rejuvenating, this can be considered one of the finest therapies which invigorates the body issues. Effective in diseases of the Nervous System, Spinal Cord and Muscle Degeneration, Cerebral Palsy, Emaciation, Chronic Rheumatism etc.

Anna Lepam (Massage with Medicated Rice)

This is a type of snigdha sweda. Warm paste of Shashtika is applied over the body and swedana is enhanced. This is very effective in General Debility, Motor Neuron Diseases, Parkinson ’s Disease, Paralysis, Cerebral Palsy, Degenerative Diseases etc.

Sirodhara

A procedure in which various liquids (taila, kwatha, medicated milk) are poured over the forehead in a continuous stream and then allowing it flow over the scalp for a specific period from a specific height. Effective in Neurological Disorders, Stress, Depression and Stroke etc.

Takradhara

A variety of sirodhara, where medicated buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead. Indicated in Psoriasis, Mental Disorders, and Headache etc.

Siropichu

A type of Moordhini taila in which a cotton plunged in medicated oil to be applied on scalp for a specific time. It can be performed in various conditions affecting CNS.

Sirovasthi

A procedure in which medicated oil is allowed to stay over the head for the prescribed time. Effective in Neurological Diseases, Psychological Diseases, Imparts Strength to Brain, etc.

Siro Lepa (Thalapothichil)

This is a Kerala speciality therapy that helps to mitigate the impact of diseases affecting the head. Medicated paste with butter milk/milk is applied over the scalp for a specific time. It can be performed in various diseases - scalp psoriasis, hair fall, Insomnia etc.

Avagaham

A type of sudation therapy in which the patient is allowed to sit / lie in a tub containing medicated dravya. Effective in treating Lower Back Ache, Anal Fissure & Fistula, Pilonidal Sinus, Genital Diseases, Infertility, etc.

Upanaham

Type of bandage were medicated powder is made into a paste by adding amla drava and applied / tied over the affected area. Effective in Arthritis of Knee, Low Back Pain, Tennis Elbow, Plantar Fascitis, Bursitis etc.

PURIFICATORY THERAPIES / PANCHA KARMA /SODHANA CHIKITSA

This treatment regimen consists of a fivefold procedure meant to eliminate the vitiated doshas from the body. They are Vamana (Emesis), Virechana (Purgation), Niroohavasti (Decoction Enema), Anuvasanavasti (Oil Enema) and Nasya (Instillation of medicine through nostrils). These procedures effectively purges the body of toxic materials left by disorders, poor nutrition and environmental changes. Repeated diseases affect individuals because of one’s repeated dietary indiscretions, poor exercise patterns, sedentary lifestyles and genetic predisposition. The waste matter called ama in Ayurveda is evacuated from the body through Panchakarma. Prior to commencing Panchakarma, every individual should be prepared by internal as well as external lubrication and sudation therapy. Later on, depending on the dosha involved, any one of following Panchakarma treatments is given.

Snehapanam (Lubrication)

Snehapana is an important procedure before sodhana therapy. The idea behind the use of snehapana is to bring the vitiated dosas to a suitable state so that they can be expelled out easily. The treatment includes the oral intake of Medicated Ghee / Oil for prescribed time without mixing with food articles.

Swedanam (Sudation)

Swedana is done to liquefy the vitiated dosas which are spread throughout the body. Swedana relieves Stiffness, Heaviness and Coldness of the body.

PANCHA KARMA

Vamanam (Emesis therapy)

In Emesis Therapy, vomitting is induced by oral administration of medicaments. Done early morning, especially for vitiated Kapha, Vamanam is effective in Bronchial Asthma, Psoriasis, Schizophrenia, Drug Addiction, Allergic Conditions, Epilepsy, PCOS, etc.

Virechanam (Purgation thearpy)

Most commonly employed Sodhana Therapy is Virechana. In this process, elimination of vitiated ‘pittadi dosha’ is done through administration of therapeutic purgatives in pittakala. It has got a lot of therapeutic benefits in disorders of GI Tract, Musculoskeletal Spectrum, Neurological disorders, etc.

Nasyam (Nasal Medication)

The administration of medicaments via nasal route is called as Nasya. Mostly indicated in diseases of Head and Neck, Psychiatric Disorders, Cervical Spondylosis, some Gynaecological diseases, etc.

Anuvasana Vasthi (Oil Enema)

Here Medicated Oil / Ghee is injected through the rectal opening. Effective in Disorders of Musculoskeletal System, Nervous System, GI disorders, etc.

Nirooha Vasthi / Asthapana Vasthi (Decoction Enema)

A type of elimination therapy in which various medicaments like Honey, Rock Salt, Ghee / Oil, Medicated Paste and Decoction are mixed thoroughly before being administered through rectal opening using a specially designed instrument. Effective in disorders of musculoskeletal system such as Lumbar Spondylosis, Sciatica, other Arthropathies, disorders of GI System, Neurological disorders, etc.

We have, well qualified and experienced medical and paramedical staffs round the clock. Our Foundation has got a tieup with the nearest Allopathiy hospital to provide emergency services, if necessary.
Visiting hours

Visiting hours: 11.00 am to 03.00 pm and 05.00 pm to 07.30 pm. Please avoid visiting the patients during fever, sorethroat, flu and other contagious diseases. Better to avoid bringing children to the Foundation. Outside food for the patient is strictly prohibited.

We have fully automated clinical laboratory from 07.30 am to 05.00 pm, providing complete laboratory services at affordable rate, both for patients & public.

Doctors are available throughout the week from 10.00 AM - 5.00 PM.
To consult the Chief Physicians, prior booking is required.

In patient services

Our Nursing Home provides expert treatment to In-Patient.
After detail discussion with the patients and/or bystanders and after reviewing the medical records if any, adequate treatments will be advised by the Chief Physicians.
Treatments are decided based on the clinical conditions. Patients will be advised to undergo the therapy for a period of 16 to 30 days. There are NO offer packages. All doubts and queries, will be clarified by the duty Doctors, prior to admission.

Disabled patients

Our Nursing home is committed to meet the needs of the disabled patients, also. The patient rooms, treatment rooms and other areas are designed for a smooth transportation of the patients with disabilities.

Ayurveda Foundation

‘Vaidyaratnam’ was the title bestowed upon Ashtavaidyan Sri E.T. Narayanan Mooss by the British Government in 1924, for his valuable contribution in the field of Ayurveda. Vaidyaratnam Foundation Hospital was envisaged by our founder Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandhan Mooss (Padmashree recipient in 1992) to make authentic traditional Ayurveda treatment accessible even to the common man, irrespective of cast, gender, age or socio-economic status. Initially called ‘Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Research Centre and Charitable Hospital’, the ‘Vaidyaratnam Foundation Hospital’ is a hallowed name in the field of medical consultation, training and research.

Research

In recognition of the institution’s contribution to the advancement of Ayurveda, the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India upgraded it as a ‘Centre of Excellence in Ayurvedic Management of Chronic Joint Disorders’ in 2010.
This project comprising a 40 bedded specialty hospital with all the facilities like digital X-ray units, ECG, clinical laboratory and physiotherapy wing was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, Smt. Santhosh Chowdhary on 14th December 2013.
Using cutting-edge diagnostic tools, research was carried out on five identified disorders namelys, Rheumatiod Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gouty Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Systemic Lupus Erythamatosus (SLE). Subsequently, in 2017, the Ministry of AYUSH granted the institution one more research programme under EMR scheme, for mitigating the impact of Osteo-arthritis of knees.

STIMULATORY THERAPIES (SAMANA CHIKITSA)

Abhyangam (Medicated Oil Massage)

Application of oil over body while gentle pressure is applied in seven different postures. It prevents Ageing, Fatigue and effective in treating Degenerative Erthritis, Emaciation, Low Back Ache, Sprain, Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis

Udwartanam (Powder Massage)

Medicated powder is applied all over the body with pressure. Effective in Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Neuropathies etc.

Dhanyamladhara (Sudation with Medicated Liquid)

Luke warm dhanyamla is poured all over the body. Effective in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Bemiplegia, Obesity, Osteoarthritisetc.

Valuka Swedam (Sudation with Sand)

Dry type of sudation in which sand is used to enhance sudation. Effective in Rheumatic Fever, Plantar Fascitis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.

Choorna Pinda Swedam (Sudation with Medicated Powder)

Dry / snigdha type of sudation in which medicated powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Arthritis, Sciatica, Neurological Disorders, etc.

Pathra Potala Swedam (Sudation with Medicated Leaves)

Snigdha type of sudation in which medicated leaves & powders are used to enhance sudation. It relieves low back ache, muscle cramps, joint disorders, etc.

Jambeera Pinda Swedam (Sudation with Jambeera)

Snigdha type of sudation in which Jambeera Fruits & Powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Frozen Shoulder, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Plantar Fascitisy, Obesity, etc.

Pizhichil (Oil Bath)

Sirodhara

Takradhara

A variety of sirodhara, where medicated buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead. Indicated in Psoriasis, Mental Disorders, and Headache etc.

Siroipichu

A type of moordhni taila in which a cotton cloth soaked in medicated oil is places on scalp for a specific time. It can be performed in various conditions affecting CNS, Hair, Dermatological Conditions of Scalp etc.

Sirovasthi

A procedure in which medicated oil is allowed to stay over the head for the prescribed time. Effective in Neurological Diseases, Psychological Diseases, Imparts Strength to Brain, etc.

Siro Lepa (Thalapothichil)

This is a Kerala specialty therapy that helps mitigate the impact of diseases affecting the head. Amalaki paste with butter milk is applied over the scalp for a specific time. It Enhances Coldness to the Head and Pacifies Pitta Dosha.

Snehapanam (Lubrication)

Snehapana is an important procedure before sodhana therapy. The idea behind the use of snehapana is to bring the vitiated dosas to a suitable state so that they can be expelled out easily. The treatment includes the oral intake Of Medicated Ghee / Oil for prescribed time without mixing with food articles.

Swedanam (Sudation)

Swedana is done to liquefy the vitiated dosas which are spread throughout the body. Swedana relieves Stiffness, Heaviness and Coldness of the body.

Nasyam (Nasal Medication)

The administration of medicaments via nasal route is called as Nasya. Mostly indicated in diseases of Head and Neck, Psychiatric Disorders, Cervical Spondylosis, some Gynaecological diseases, etc.

Here Medicated Oil / Ghee is injected through the rectal opening. Effective in Disorders of Musculoskeletal System, Nervous System, GI disorders, etc.

Our Foundation has got a tieup with the nearest Allopathiy hospital to provide emergency services, if necessary.
Visiting hours

Visiting hours: 11.00 am to 03.00 pm and 05.00 pm to 07.30 pm. Please avoid visiting the patients during fever, sorethroat, flu and other contagious diseases. Better to avoid bringing children to the Foundation. Outside food for the patient is strictly prohibited.

We have fully automated clinical laboratory from 07.30 am to 05.00 pm, providing complete laboratory services at affordable rate, both for patients & public.
