Trigonil tablet is an Ayurvedic Proprietary Medicine from Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala useful in the treatment of Hypertriglyceridaemia. The product is presented in the form of tablet containing 7 ingredients - Atasi, Rasona, Jathiphala, Hareethaki, Vibithaki, Amalaki and Maricha.

Rasa: Thiktha madhura kashaya katu
Virya: Ushna
Vipaka: Katu
Cumulative Pharmacological action of the formulation :
Doshakarma: Tridoshahara,especially kaphahara
Dhathukarma: Medhohara
Agnikarma: Deepana,pachana
Anyakarma: Vibandhagna, hrdrogaghna, sulagna, sophagna, avaranagna.
Supportive phytoconstituents :
Fiber component consisting of d-xylose, l-galactose, l-rhamnose, d-galacturonic acid, galactose, Alpha-linolenic acid (Linum usitatissimum), Allicin, Allyl propyl disulfide, cysteine sulfoxide, S-allyl cysteine sulfoxide (Allium sativum), Myristic acid (Myristica fragrans), Emblicanin A , emblicanin B (Emblica officinalis) and Piperine(Piper nigrum).

Pharmacodynamics :
The mechanism of hypertriglyceridemia in the setting of obesity has been linked to insulin resistance, wherein an increased flux of adipose tissue–derived free fatty acids (FFAs) gives rise to increased rates of hepatic triglyceride synthesis and secretion of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) triglycerides.

Ayurvedic point of view :
In Hypertriglyceridaemia , medodhatvagni mandhya play a key role for medovaha-srotodushti along with vitiation of kapha dosha. This formulation is predominant of katu vipaka. Katu vipaka is having laghu, ruksha guna, so it acts as kaphahara.Thiktha and kashaya rasa are acts as pitha and kaphahara. Medas is body tissue predominant in Prithvi and Ap Mahabhutas similar to Kapha Dosha. So this formulation can be given in medoroga.
Conclusion
- Linum usitatissimum , Allium sativum , Myristica fragrans, Terminalia chebula , Emblica officinalis and Piper nigrum present in the formulation are proven to have anti-hypercholesterolemic activity and antidiabetic activity .
- Piperine present in the piper longum act as a bioenhancer which helps in increasing the bioavailability of the other ingredients. Other supporting factors like hepatoprotective , neuroprotective, cardioprotective actions are also shown by the ingredients of this formulation.
- Thus,Trigonil tablet can be considered as a potent medication for controlling high levels of triglycerides .
